Insurance for your Low Speed Vehicle
Once your cart is registered as an LSV it is a road vehicle, and Florida treats it like one. Insurance has to be active before your LSV can be registered, which makes it one of the two things that can hold up an otherwise complete package.
What Florida requires
Florida requires $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and $10,000 in Property Damage Liability (PDL) on a Low Speed Vehicle. That coverage has to be active before your LSV can be registered. Not applied for, not pending: active.
We are not insurance agents and we do not sell, recommend, or advise on coverage, carriers or pricing. What we do is tell you exactly what to ask for, and tell you early enough that it does not delay your filing.
What to say to your agent
“I am registering a golf cart as a Low Speed Vehicle in Florida. I need a policy with at least $10,000 of Personal Injury Protection and $10,000 of Property Damage Liability, and I need it active before the registration is filed.”
Your agent may ask for the VIN. If your cart does not have one yet, tell them the VIN is being assigned as part of the registration and ask what they need in the meantime. Most carriers handle this routinely.
Common questions we can answer
Does my homeowners policy cover it?
A golf cart is sometimes covered under a homeowners policy. A registered road vehicle is a different question, and it is one for your agent rather than for us. Ask them directly, and ask before you assume.
When exactly do I need it?
Before your registration is filed. We will tell you when in our process to get it in place so that you are not paying premiums months before the vehicle is on the road, and not scrambling for it on the day the package is ready.
Can you arrange it for me?
No. We handle registration, not insurance. We will point you to what to ask for and answer questions about how it fits into the timeline.
