Street Legal Golf Carts in Key West
We register golf carts as Low Speed Vehicles for Key West owners: paperwork, filing, VIN, title, tag and registration, without a DMV visit.
Why Key West runs on carts
Key West is four miles long, its Old Town grid was laid out for horses, and a parking space near Duval is a genuine asset. A street-legal cart is not a novelty here - it is the most rational vehicle on the island. Residents use them to get to work, to the marina and to the grocery store, and the short trip distances mean the range limits that bother mainland owners never come up.
Key West carts have two recurring problems, and both are documentary rather than mechanical. The first is ownership: carts trade privately between residents and seasonal owners, often with nothing more than a note, and a handwritten private-party receipt is one of the most common reasons a conversion package gets sent back. The second is corrosion - salt air ruins lighting connectors, reflector housings and mirror hardware faster than anywhere else in Florida, so the equipment that passed a look two seasons ago may not pass one today. We check both before anything is filed.
Where Key West owners actually drive
- Old Town streets around the Duval corridor
- Residential lanes toward Smathers Beach
- Trips to the Key West Bight and Historic Seaport
- Stock Island and New Town neighborhood errands
Speed limits and where an LSV belongs
A registered Low Speed Vehicle is street legal on Florida roads posted at 35 mph or less, which describes most of the Key West street grid. The City of Key West sets its own operating rules, and they are revised from time to time.
What your cart needs first
Before any of this matters, the cart has to carry the twelve items on the equipment list and clear the two eligibility limits, top speed and gross vehicle weight. Our checker settles both in about two minutes, and tells you what a conversion would cost if anything is missing.
Two minutes, and you know
No account, no payment, no obligation. Answer a few questions about your cart and we will tell you whether it qualifies, what it is missing, and what the whole thing costs.
